Once again INETA Europe and GITCA are organizing the Birds-of-a-Feather (BOF) sessions at Tech·Ed Europe in Berlin, November 8-12, 2010. BOF sessions are moderated open discussions on technology related topics proposed by members of INETA/GITCA Community. BOF sessions are not formal presentations, no slides or software demonstrations. The format is casual and open with a microphone and whiteboard available to facilitate discussions.

The sessions are an opportunity for INETA/GITCA members to have technical conversations with their peers on technology related topics of interest. A topic may be related to conference content or any other topic that would be of interest to conference attendees. The BOF sessions are a great opportunity to meet with other attendees that have common interests and exchange ideas.

All conference attendees with the exception of Microsoft employees are eligible to submit a topic proposal. Check this page for examples of topics. To be considered for a BOF session, please submit your proposal no later than October 10, 2010. Community activities in Bosnia have started by founding first INETA user group in Bosnian capital city Sarajevo. This user group was called “MUG” (Microsoft user group) and was founded by Tarik Talić 14-Jul-2005. Unfortunately, this user group has stopped with its activities one year later. In about same time, one man (me) Radenko Zec has started another INETA user in one of largest cities in Bosnia called Banjaluka in 19-Nov-2006. This user group is active today.

This user group had primary focus on developers themes and had one regular meeting monthly. This user group recently moved meetings to larger presentation facilities on University of Banjaluka. On that place we have better conditions to provide demos and to get together larger number of attendees.

In 2007, Damir Dizdarević – Management infrastructure MVP has founded new INETA user group in Sarajevo called “MSCommunity”. This user group started with regular monthly-based meetings in November 2007, and it is active today. Online portal of this group can be found at http://www.mscommunity.ba/. Currently, this group has more than 400 registered members. Their meetings are being held at premises of Microsoft Bosnia and Herzegovina, and they initiated pretty large community activities in Bosnian capital city. This group is focused on both ITPro and SQL/Dev people.
Damir Dizdarević is also INETA Country Leader for Bosnia and Herzegovina.

This year, Bosnia becomes richer for two more INETA user groups. One was founded in city Bijeljina, and it is called “.NET user group Bijeljina”. Their web site can be found at bijeljina.mscommunity.ba. This group was founded by Spaso Lazarević. Other group, called F5 was founded by Jasmin Azemović – Sql Server MVP in Mostar (web presentation: f5.mscommunity.ba)

Comparing to some communities in region such as Croatia (more than 10 active user groups) Bosnian community is small (having 4 active INETA user groups) but comparing to other neighborhood countries such as Slovenia (1 active user group) Serbia (2 active user groups) or Macedonia (2 active user groups) we have solid community and we will try to involve more people in community activities, and found user groups in other Bosnian cities.

Also we will try to join our forces in the future to make some large community event.

Malta has New User Group: Tech-Spark! This UG was co-organizing Microsoft DevDays!

Jonathan Cassar, president and founding member of new INETA Europe User Group in Malta: Tech-Spark UG wrote follwing article for the INETA NewsFLASH:

Tech-Spark is a Microsoft user group in Malta, with the aim contribute towards the growth of the local ICT industry through networking and education, and to foster an active community of technology professionals in Malta, providing members unique opportunities to enhance their skills and value.

The need has been felt to also cater for the IT professional audience such as system administrators, network engineers and operations staff. Tech-Spark plans to have a number of events throughout the year, and the speakers will be selected from different local and foreign companies.
So far it had presentations on UX design, Windows 2008 R2, Hyper-V, Windows Azure, IIS7 and Developing for Windows 7, as well as a general chalk and talk session with domain experts.

The latest event, MSDevDays www.msdevdays.com was organised in conjunction with MS Malta.

Developer Days 2010 was an event for all developers, architects and other IT specialists that wanted to more about the Microsoft development platform. During the day a holistic overview of the technologies, products and approaches was provided, effectivley launching VS2010 for the community.
Topics included products such as .NET Framework, C++, Silverlight, Windows Azure platform and services, IE8, Windows 7, Visual Studio 2010, and Expression Tools, data access and web development. For the project managers and team leaders there was a dive deep into Application Lifecycle Management and Team Foundation Server.

The event also featured short breakout sessions run by community members, where attendees could focus more on the language and smart client enhancements for VS2010 or more on the User Experience for delivering the next generation of Rich Internet Applications (RIAs).

Recently Tech-Spark also organised a Speaker Idol competition, an exciting and challenging event where developers and IT pros speak on topics of interest to them. The purpose of the competition was to enable lesser-known members of the technical community to be recognised for their talents and speaking abilities. The goal was to find "diamonds in the rough" and future thought leaders and speakers that can enhance the local technical community. Daniel D'Agostino was our winner, and apart from gifts he also got the chance to present at MS Devdays.

INETA Europe is growing - 418 User Groups representing 175.520 members!

I am very pleased that I can write about such good news – INETA Europe is growing!

Every day we are getting new applications from User Group Leaders and we are happy that we can say that now we have more than 418 User Groups in 36 European countries that are representing more than 175.520 members!
So how we did that? With the help of the network of volunteers, staring with Country Leaders, User Group Leaders, Liaisons and (of course) Board Members!

I would like to say BIG THANK YOU to all and KEEP THE GOOD WORK!

P.S. We are planning to offer some of the new services to our membership so keep posted!

Last week we've been at TechEd Berlin most of the time spending at INETA booth. We have a great time socializing with colleagues from all over the Europe and world sharing user group expiriences. I talk with Nuno Filipe Godinho about the Portugal user groups, Jonathan Cassar about starting a new user group in Malta, Martin Kulov about the succesfull Dev Reach conference in Bulgaria, Daron Yondem about community work in Turkey and many more. Daniel Sorlov lead the BoF session about the Communities in the world and Tiberiu Covaci organizes interesting panel discussion on "what is your motivation to run a user group and lead a community" theme.

And the INETA Board was active - our president Damir Tomičić held a session about the Silverlight and developing a multitouch application and Tomislav Bronzin held a session on programming for Windows 7. Miguel Lopez Gonzales and Sander Gertz work at TLC as Aks the Experts. Jose Luis Lattore was organizing "Guitar Hero Contenst" in coordination with MVP-Program and Culminis. Andre Obelink and myself spend most of our time at the booth with help of Tim Young and Hassan Fadili.

We managed the BoF sessions (submited and voted by community) and those sessions were well attended aldo in not so good spaces (noisy rooms open to TLC space). I congrat to all BoF speakers on the work they done there.

INETA also organizes INETA Volunteer dinner where we all have to chance to share our community work expirineces to others. I'm happy to say that there is a lot of guys willing to work hard for community and the sharing and feeling that spirit is what motivates us to work even more.

How to become a INETA member

If you host or lead a User Group that has focus on .NET technologies and if your User Group meet INETA conditions you could apply your group for INETA membership. The most common question is "What should I do to make my UG INETA member?". We create a guideline document with step-by-step procedure that answer at that question. Hello from Poland

I usually start blogging with Hello World post but this time let it be Hello from Poland. Let me introduce myself. I am an INETA Country Leader for Poland and I’ll try to blog a bit about community here and venues that we organize quite often. You may also expect to read my thoughts on community itself. This was the intro and now…

Story of my live :). Well maybe just a bit about myself to pleasure my megalomania :). I am a software architect (architect is a software developer that does not have where to go furthern :) with university background. Five years ago some smart people decided to organize a User Group in the most beautifull Polish city – Kraków. I was there and I found this is it. This is what I like to do as I love to share my knowledge. I was speaking on the seceond meeting about Unit Testing with NUnit. During those five years I was speaking so many times that I cannot remember. I also was a leader of the User Group and I can tell one thing: this form of self exhibitionism still thrills me. I also organized Polish edition of the First European Silverlight Challenge. Finally I got this opportunity to be the INETA Country Leader and here I am.

Unfortunatelly I do not have much time nowadays. I am father of two sons and my wife always tells me I am to old to play toys :) – she means the community activities I am involved in. I believe this is wifes responsobility to keep husban at home :). No way.

I have few topics I will try to write really soon:

CodeCamp in Kraków
Other events organized yearly by the entire Polish community (like C2C)
UG Leaders meetings – we have a meeting every half a year and you should see almost 100 leaders gathered in one place. This is really motivating.
UG activites I like – especially Study Groups (how to organize them)
How the Polish community is organized and what works fine (from my point of view)
Our site – we have a one site for almost all UGs in Poland.
Speaker Tours – we organize a really extensive ‘vacations’ for spekaers from outside Poland – e.g. Glen Block was visiting 5 cities in 6 days.

That’s all for the begining. We’ll see how it works.

INETA Europe activities at Tech·Ed 2009!

Microsoft Tech·Ed is the premier technical education and networking event for any technology professional interested in learning, connecting and exploring a broad set of current and soon-to-be released Microsoft® technologies, tools, platforms and services.

INETA Europe will provide opportunity for its members (currently 129.577 members) and User Group Leaders (currently 378 User Groups) as well to all Country Leaders, Liaisons, volunteers and Board Members to have annual meeting at TechEd Europe!

We are preparing a lot of activities/content this year, among which most important are:

BOF – Birds of a Feather – opportunity to speak at TechEd!
Special Board Members presentations – see below topics
Special Country Leaders presentations – opportunity to see each European country experience in promoting community and delivering great content
Give the INETA Europe a feedback! – Trough direct communication on booth/pod or through on-line Community Survey or schedule a meeting with Board Member!

Birds of a Feather sessions at TechEd Europe

Over the past several years INETA, Culminis, and the entire community have stepped forward to make the BOF sessions a valuable and vital part of TechEd. BOF sessions now run concurrent with the conference breakout sessions. In the past, hundreds of people participated in the BOFs and great discussions took place!

Of course, it can’t happen without you proposing and leading the discussions that are important to you, so you need to submit your ideas and (after the BOF team review) it will be available for voting trough the tool that will be communicated to you by INETA Europe in following days!

For those of you that are NOT attending TechEd Europe, we will make possible to record 5-10 minutes with Live Meeting tool and publish it on-line. Submit the proposals to the same e-mail and record the presentation before TechEd Europe begins!

Give the INETA Europe a feedback!

As all of the INETA Europe Board members and some of Country Leaders/Liaisons will be present during the TechEd Europe at the booth/pod, you can meet them, talk with them and give them feedback! Or just come to the booth and introduce yourself, or maybe express the desire to be an INETA Europe volunteer!

Also, we will prepare special INETA Europe on-line survey that is very important to us to see what do you think and feel about the future of the INETA organization!

In the mean time, follow us on Facebook and Tweeter to see updates to this program and submit your ideas, as well to tell us that you will be there!

INETA Europe goes Web Standards

Well, this is a good way of begin bloging in my INETA Europe Community Blog! We have just launched our August Newsletter, and we have made it with a new design and layout for that, appliying best practices of Web Standards and new Microsoft design and authoring tools: Microsoft Expression Studio.

As Tim Berners Lee says, "making the web accessible regardless of the user's abilities is also a major challenge and again the separation of form and content helps. The increasingly multimedia world of information targeted at human perception and the well-defined world of data are two extremes that the web has to be able to handle"

In this times even Microsoft have bet on Web accessibility with technologies as Expression Design and Expression Web, INETA Europe wants to redefine the way of getting their associates, their communities, the big world of .NET developers and one of the first steps this year is changing our Newsletter design and structure, with a more accessible bulletin, with semantic code, without layout tables and with all the power Web standards provide to final Web users: a common way of seeing all the info independently of the Web browser used:

Complete compatibility with Web standards: (XHTML and CSS).
Semantic use of tables. Only for presenting data, not presentational issues.
More possibilities to access our info. No matter which device you are using to read our Newsletter, Web standards work well with all, used in a correct way.
Less (X)HTML code. That means faster loading to all our info and better use of your bandwidth usage!
Better search engine ranking. Search engines give a better position to well-written content delivery through clean, well-structured and semantic markup.
Easier to maintain. We separate clearly presentational and behavioral issues from content, which allows us to change the design without pain.

This is only the beginning. We are now thinking in a new design and structure for our main site (europe.ineta.org) and more improvements in the way we relate with our main taskforce: you developer. Stay connected and follows up in the next INETA Europe newsletter.

If you want to express your oppinion about new structure and design we will be very pleased to hear you, at the end, we are here to provide a better service for developer communityes in Europe and want to give faster feedback with the use of the last trends in Web develpment, in a way of permanent improvement between our UG's around INETA Europe.

KulenDayz Conference - Microsoft Community Regional Event of the year supported by INETA Europe!

KulenDayz Conference have finished yesterday!

Microsoft Community Osijek together with Microsoft Croatia with support from INETA Europe and HUPRO (Croatian Association of Computer Programmers) organized the regional community conference KulenDayz 2009. Conference brought togather more than 150 leading IT Experts from the region giving them a chance to spend a weekend filled with 18 attractive sessions presented by top speakers (among them 12 MVP's) and to relax in Kopacki Rit-Nature Park, enjoying unspoiled nature.

Keynote speakers were:
1. Opening Speach: Bernardin Katic and Dejan Vitner (MVP's and User Group Leaders from Osijek/Croatia)
2. Supporting IT Pro and Dev Communites and how MVP's are important: Rane Johnson-Stempson from Microsoft (CEE Regional Leader for Communites),
